The Dodge Intrepid enters 1998 as a completely redesigned sport sedan that reinforces the strong design and brand lineage instilled in Chrysler Corporation's performance brand more than five years ago. The all-new Dodge Intrepid reflects the Dodge brand's signature of offering sporty, performance-oriented vehicles with its sleek, more muscular design. It's overall design cues will be recognized from the Intrepid ESX show car unveiled last year - marking another link between concept and production vehicles that has become a hallmark for both the Company and brand. The 1998 Dodge Intrepid is as bold and innovative as the first-generation model which was heralded as one of the industry's landmark designs.

Incorporating Dodge's distinctive brand "signature" was a key element from the very earliest stages of developing the all-new Intrepid. Specific design traits seen in the 1998 Dodge Intrepid include a bold 'cross hair' grille - now a trademark of all Dodge vehicles - as well as a bold stance from any angle and a cockpit-style interior. The Intrepid has been given a 'fast' roofline that gives this sedan a coupe-like appearance. The Intrepid's redesign for 1998 extends far beyond its distinctive profile, starting with a series of all-new aluminum engines that are up to 25 percent more powerful and 10 percent more fuel efficient than the engines they replace.

The Dodge Intrepid will be powered by an all-new, aluminum 2.7-liter, 24-valve V-6 engine. Rated at 200 horsepower, this new engine boasts the highest horsepower-per-liter rating in its class. The Intrepid ES will be powered by an all-aluminum 3.2-liter V-6 that delivers 220 hp. The 3.2-liter V-6 is more powerful and lighter than the current-generation 3.5-liter V-6 engine. All Intrepid ES sedans will be equipped with the AutoStick® performance feature that lets drivers shift gears without using a clutch.
